I've already had contact with Nazareth House, all they could give was Elizabeths admission/discharge dates and her parents names, nothing else which exasperated me, lol

A BHC is a British Home Child, what they call youngsters who were despatched by various orphanages and the government to Canada & Australia. If your missing a child ancestor then check - http://www(.)collectionscanada(.)ca/02/020110_e(.)html remove brackets From 1869-the 1930s, over 100,000 children between 0-18 left these shores for Canada.

I was pretty certain that it was the girls RC orphanage run by the Poor Sisters of Nazareth. I always thought that the boys had something to do with the Marist brothers or priests. The 1890 Bulmers directory has this though Convent of the Poor Sisters of Nazareth, home for aged, infirm, & infantile poor, Albert park I googled the Nazereth and it came up with loads. too late to try the boys though. Time for bed! Linda.

I'm asking this on the slim chance that someone may know the answers to these two questions: 1. Was Nazareth House, Middlesbrough a girls only home in 1901 2. If so what was the Catholic boys home covering Middlesbrough in the 1890s Its a stab in the dark really, my BHC had a brother who in 1901 was 9 and living with rellies, I'm wondering if he like his sister spent some time in a home prior to being claimed, cos I can't get my head round why the girl ended up in Nazareth House 6mths after her fathers death, real mum died when she was 5, her stepmum plainly could'nt/would'nt care for Elizabeth and Dennis ended up with his uncle & aunt. Noone even knew she existed till I discovered it but my whole family knew about Dennis. Will probably never know why it all happened the way it did George
