Well, they owned some pie and eel shops as far as I know. Guess they must have commissioned a 'craftsman' to do this piece of work as you said as a keepsake, because if anybody would know about this I am postive GR members would! Thanks for your replies. Jayne

Do you know the occupation's of the family? Maybe they worked with leather and made it as a keepsake. Kath. x

Well as far as I know birth certs are written and then torn out of books made of paper, not leather. Perhaps this one was written onto leather as a keepsake though it must have been very good quality ink! nell

It was amongst some rellies paperwork and it is from the Salisbury District. It just doesnt look like its been stuck on afterwards. The family were supposed to have had money when he was born. Dont know if this meant something or not. Perhaps it was stcuk on afterwards in a very professional way. Thanks Jayne

I have a 'short' certificate from 1921 and it is thin enough for a newspaper to be read through it.

We have found an ancestors birth certificate from 1918 that is on leather. Does anybody know if they were issued like this? This one does not look like it has been stuck on to some leather. Many Thanks Jayne
