Hi Mhairi I'm back. Margaret's right, I think that's them on 1881. She is Jane not Jean on the Marraige cert, and there don't seem to be any other possibles. I think I have them on the 1901 at Silverburn Cottages, Holytown, Bothwell, with David, 19, Mary, 17, William, 16, Robert, 14, Janet A, 10, Jeanie B, 8, Annie R, 5, and Adam S either 2 or 1. Jane has now become Jeanie. His birthplace has gone from Crofthead to Carluke and hers from New Monkland to Whifflet. Now we struggle. I too can not find his birth under either Weir or Archibald. If, as it would seem from the marraige cert, his parents were not married, I would expect him to be registered under Archibald. The only James Archibald on Scotlandspeople born 1853 has no father (which looks right) but mother is Margaret Archibald, and its at Colinton, Edinburgh. Leave it with me - I'm hooked now! Ellen.

Mhairi Its got me intrigued - I'm getting nowhere fast either. I really have to go out now (still sitting with wet hair in a towel!), but if you're no further forward when I get back tonight, I'll have a proper rummage for you. Regards Ellen.
