It would be on the marriage certificate. It would be on her child's birth certifcate. It is also persuasive evidence if you find a census record where a visiting mother-in-law has a different surname from the male head-of-household. In later GRO index pages, the partner's surname is given alongside the name of the person in the list. But that is more of a reassurance you've found the right one, unless your quarry's surname is extraordinarily rare. Christine

You can find the maiden name from a birth certificate of one of the children, or if the birth was after 1911, the index on 1837online gives the mothers maiden name. You could try and find the marriage on freeBMD or Ancestry using the husband's name, it will usually only give one or two possible brides names and if you know her christian name, should be easy to work out which one it is.
