The Bishops Transcripts are usually held at the County Records Office for the area you are researching. The parish registers sometimes give reference to the village your ancestors came from, but not necessarily an address. Jeanette x

If you can get hold of Bishops Transcripts, (normally held at Cathedrals?) you will get christenings, marriages and burials for each year all together rather than separately, which makes easier reading.

The principal parish records will be for Baptisms (which aren't always as a baby), Marriages (where people weren't always honest about ages or relationships), and Funerals (for which the recorder may not know all the relevant information accurately, and which occasionally took place not immediately after the death). Having said all that, they can be invaluable. Depending on the era they may be in Latin. They wouldn't normally include addresses, but will include references to other family members (especially fathers - women didn't often count for much!). Marriage witnesses may be family members. Some kinds of records may include references to ages or dates of birth. I have the Leicester Project CD - a database of a lot of the parishes' earlier records through to registration-era events. Occasionally there are references to "abodes" which can be either where the person was living at the time of the event, or it could be where they originally came from. Christine
