So either William Wolstenholme 1760 or William Wolstenholme 1776 could be Francis' father. But only William Wolstenholme 1760 was old enough to be the one that married Mary Binns. Think I'll have to check the PR's to see if there's a mother's name anywhere for Francis(probably not, knowing my luck). Alternatively perhaps William Worstenholme 1776 is the one who married in 1803. Better check his marriage record for father's name. Am I beginning to see the light? Fingers crossed Carole

Carole, I have never come across such extensive Father only recording...I wonder why? I don't know what to say...no wonder you are puzzled.Joan

Hi Joan There are two marriages: William Worstenholme + Mary Binns 29 May 1788 William Worstenholme + Elizabeth Brown 26 Jun 1803 both in Elland I don't think the second couple are the right ones as I can't find any of their children being born in elland. Here are the births for William Wolstenholmes in addition to the ones you mentioned ... the difference being there is no mothers name THOMAS WORSTENHOLME Male 1758 30-juin Ripponden WILLIAM WOLSTENHOLME WILLIAM WORSTENHOLME Male 1760 04 APR Ripponden WILLIAM WOLSTENHOLME ANN WORSTENHOLM Female 1789 24 MAY Ripponden WILLIAM WORSTENHOLM CHARLOTTE WORSTENHOLM Female 1793 03 FEB Ripponden WILLIAM WORSTENHOLM HARRIET WORSTENHOLM Female 1791 27 FEB Ripponden WILLIAM WORSTENHOLM FRANCIS WORSTENHOLME Male 1799 24-nov Ripponden WILLIAM WORSTENHOLME MARY WORSTENHOLM Female 1755 6-jan Ripponden WM. WORSTENHOLM SUSANNAH WORSTENHOLME Female 1795 05 APR Ripponden WM. WORSTENHOLME WILLIAM WORSTENHOLME Male 1760 04 APR Ripponden WILLIAM WOLSTENHOLME WILLIAM WORSTENHOLM Male 1776 12 APR Ripponden DEAN WORSTENHOLM WILLIAM WORSTENHOLME Male 1823 28-nov Ripponden FRANCIS WOLSTONHOLME ALICE WILLIAM FAWCET WORSTENHOLME Male 1810 16-nov Ripponden WILLIAM WORSTENHOLME MARY an interesting thing is that Francis called one of his sons Dean (there is a Wolstonholme marriage to a Susanah Dean); This is driving me bogeyed...maybe I'm trying to sort the impossible out!!! Thanks for your help and advice. Carole

William and Mary seem to have had 7 children:- Jane 1797 Leah 1802 Rachel 1804 Issabella 1806 Mary 1808 William Fawcett 1810 Grace 1812 so Francis 1799 certainly fits in this family. Perhaps someone would look in the parish register for you....maybe there is a transcription error...or maybe some information which would confirm Francis belongs with this family. One thought though...if Francis is the firstborn son, why is he not William? If William's own father was Francis this would be a strong indicator for me. Also William Fawcett....was mum Mary Fawcett then?....can't find a marriage though. Good hunting Joan

Have you had any luck finding the marriages in the IGI? Joan

Hi Kate Yes, that's the problem, the two Williams. The Wolstonholmes were a pretty small family in this area anyway, so small as for them to be all directly related. Francis (on the batch number I mentioned) was my ggg grandfather) and never moved from the Haifax area . The Francis you mention is different - I believe there is some connection though but I don't know what. This is another puzzle to be solved. Carole

There is a will for Francis Wolstenholme, a carver of York, from 1833 on Documents Online. Is he the same Francis?

It's hard to be certain; there are so many Worstenholmes in this batch, including 15 with father William ranging from 1755 to 1812, so it would be dodgy to say that the two you mention definitely had the same father without further information, e.g. 1841 census data or a will.

Would appreciate your thoughts on this batch: P017911 England, Yorkshire My question is... Are Francis Worstonholme and Rachel Worstonholme siblings given that Francis father is William and Rachel's parents are William and Mary? Does this mean that there are two different William Worstonholmes in the same batch or are the two Williams possibly one and the same? Help please. Would solve a few problems for me and help me connect with some US cousins. TIA Carole
