(I think?) it is difficult to search a name if GIRLS are entered as their name NOW!!! Male names obviously carry on but GIRLS need to go back and ammend their records - Please!!! Mike Kelly, Stockport, UK

Sod's law..... first of all we're branded with our father's surname, as if to mark out property and then our husband's surname.... like saying 'she's mine, back off'. So medieval!

I agree with you Paul. Might make it easier to link families.

Yep Totally agree hate using the male line names my fathers, my husbands. One day I hope this will change and we can choose between mothers and fathers, some more enlightened Countries all ready do this. I don't like either my maiden or married name and if I had the choice I would use my mother's maiden name. One day, I do hope I live to see it. Pat x

PS I do know what you mean though Paul. Although it's not the case in my family tree, nor have I come across any. Chloe

When I got married I retained my surname, Hodson but my two sons have their father's name, Cooper. We could have hyphenated but that itself brings problems. So when my descendents look for me thay will match me to my father's family but without details will struggle to match a husband and my sons... so ther isn't an easy answer as far as geneology goes.

After my divorce I reverted to my maiden name, when I remarried several years later my husband took my name. He had to change his by deed poll two days before we married, he couldn't take my name on marriage. Hence the reason I will leave my children the family tree or they will have fun trying to find out their ancestors.
