Is there 1861 census for Sussex?

You are all so great. I have just joined sussex history soc. will try to get there in summer. Ness that is just what I wanted it fits in nicely with what i already have. Thanks again you lovely peaople margaret

If you don't want to buy the CDS, all censuses from 1841-1901 are available to search free on microfilm [1901 is on microfiche & online] at the Family Records Office in Islington, London. Additionally, county records offices have the censuses for their counties for these years and often earlier headcounts too. nell

Margret there is a family history fair at The Hawth in haslett ave crawley on sunday 13th feb, and the sussex stall is going to be their, where you can buy the census cds and index books its 10 - 5 hope this helps sandra

I have found the family in Patching: James Ruff 82, widower born Ferring Jane daughter 59 unm born Clapham James son 30 widower born Clapham Stephen L grandson 16 born Clapham I have saved the image. If you would like it please email.

I'm sure there is. If you find the address of the Sussex Records office...google it... you could write and get them to do a lookup...might well only cost the price of a photocopy. Or put the requst on the Records Office Board. Good luck. Joan

If there is can anyone find the following from the 1851 census James Ruff Head age 70 born Patching Sussex Mary Ruff wife age 83 Jane Ruff dau age 45 unmarried Jane is listed as having 2 children and her name is given as RUFFE
