Sorry I have not made myself quite clear. The name Bri Smith appears on the Census' as the name of the wife but one childs actual birth certificate show the mother's name to Mary and the others to be Emma. Can't find any info on eithr Mary, Emma or Bri. (Have tried Bridget and Bridie)

Are you saying that two differently-name children both get referred to as "Bri" on the 1891 & 1901 censuses? Or is it sequential - one on 1891 & the other on 1901? How old were they? Could it be some sort of name to do with "Baby", for instance? Christine

Peter

It could just be an abreveated pet name. My own dughter Terri has 2, "Tell," the one I uses and "Tez", the one the wife uses, apart from sevral others. Her friends uses, "Dorry" . Nothing to do with the name Dorothy, but the fish in the film, Finding Nemo. (They say she has a short memory span)

Anyone have an idea what the christian name of 'Bri' might stand for. Childrens birth certs show either Mary or Emma but 1881 and 1901 census shows Bri.
