Wednesday evening when taking the dog for a walk I was gob smacked as hubbys company van which was parked outside was missing. He had gone to bed about 10 mins before I went out and he said that he had looked out of the window and it was there then, After a call to the police they said they would look out for it and if it was found would pull it into their custody and look for fingerprints etc. I was upset a hubby had left his spray guns inside with various other items used in his trade and fully expected for it to be torched once the thief had finished with it. Any how when I finished work yesterday I met a friend and was telling them about it and they said that someone elses car had been stolen a short while ago and that it was found a short distance from us that was not on a regular bus route. This got me thinking so my daughter and I drove to that area. We didn't see anything so turned into a turning to turn round and as we did there was Hubbys van. The front nearside had been hit and the lights broken, damage to the door where they had broken in but looking through the windows everything else seemed intact. Back home I contacted hubby then the police. I asked when they would fingerprint it etc only to be told that they dont bother fingerprinting cars....( there were some smashing prints visible on the window which they had tried to take out ) One asks have the police just given the go ahead to joyriders to take any car they feel like knowing that the police will do nothing to catch them, or is it they don't want the paper work. I am so angry with this attitude that there is little wonder that people take the law into their own hands but who can blame them. Very pleased to report that all hubbys work stuff was still there so it seems that whoever pinched it just need to get home from the pub....Must have been drunk hence the damage....but he could have ended up killing someone ...would they have looked for prints then? Lynn....sorry should have put this on genersl topics...never mind

Lynne I do feel for you. My hubby has had several vans for work most of which have been broken into and tools stolen. One time they didn't bother pinching the tools but just poured PVA glue all over the dash board! And the guy next door has quite an old car which is easy to break into. Quite often some mystery person takes it and drives round in it! Jeanette x

Yes, we had this too. Hubby left his van parked just at the top of our drive to pop in and make a phone call and have a cup of tea before taking it to his unit to unload. I took the dog for a walk and was horrified to see the door pulled open and tools spilling on the ground. When hubby came running out he had some really heavy tools missing, including a kango! Gawd knows how anyone could have done that in about 10 minutes flat, particularly as my office overlooks the drive and I could see the front of the van all the time! Police just gave us an incident number. Never came round or anything, said would let us know if any of the tools turned up in a raid anywhere.

my Husbands Van was parked in a Hotel Car park which had CCT and when his Van got broken into there was a film of them which he handed to the police and guess what we are still waiting, mind you its only about a year ago .

Seems to be about right... Hubby went out to work one morning, came back minute later. I said what have you forgotten NOW???? only to be told the car has gone???? Nothing of great value in it, but not only did we have to replace car, we also had to repalced four cars seats. Also kids toys and coats were in there. Was really cross. We was told that the type of car we had was stolen to order ours was the five one to 'go' from our area. They are shipped to africa and used as taxis LOL The police didn't visit ever, we was also given a crime number

My cousins car was stolen and the next day my uncle was driving and saw someone driving my cousins car pass him so he turned round and followed them, they must have relaised they were being followed as they drove onto a housing estate and then over a hedge but he followed them, in they end they abandoned the car with the keys in and he got it back Paula

A friend of ours had his car stolen from outside his Mum's house. He reported it and was given a crime number. Six weeks later, my son was driving in the area and recognised the stolen car (it used to belong to my son). He rung the police and said he was following it, but the police were 'too busy' to attend. The people that were driving it lived in the road opposite our friend's Mum, and according to the neighbours, had been parking the stolen car quite openly outside their house. They had even reported to the Police that the car wasn't taxed, but nothing was done! Sue xx

No, it does seem like there is one set of laws for us and another for them doesnt it. I mean I was stopped doing 37 mph in a country area there was half a dozen houses, not a village or anything. Up to the previous week it had been a 40 mph zone. I got £60 fine. I said to the policeman but the new sign is covered by tree branches. I came home, next day drove back with hubby and a camera - the branches had been cut back!! Yet we have travellers driivng around with no tax, obviously no insurance and no MOT, but they never get stopped.

Maybe I'm tempting fate, but here goes. The only time I have had a Vehicle interfered with was when it was in the underground Car Park of the Metropole Hotel in Brighton. I would have thought it should have been safe there.

My friends husband got stopped last week for having a broken headlight, she said it must have only just gone as they always check the car on a Sunday mornings, anyway the police filled out a ticket and he has to get a receipt from the garage where he gets it fixed (he would have done it himself) and take it to a police station with his documents. Not to busy to do that paperwork!!

Thankyou to everyone who answered my thread even if I did post it by mistake on the wrong board. May I add that this is not the first time we have had either a car stolen or broken into. First there was my daughters boyfriends (Now my son in Law)Hubby heard it start up and go but thought he was leaving for work early, It was found a week later minus the radio. Next was hubbys clasic car which was broken into but we caught the culprits redhanded and frog marched them home to their parents...they were about 14 yrs old and wanted to see what it was like inside so broke a quarterlight to get into it. The worse one was my daughters cabrolet, special edition. She had been out for the night and got home about 2.30, by 5.30 the car was minus its leather interior, and wheels and was resting on its belly. They managed to take off two sets of locking wheel nuts on 4 wheels and took the spare as well. The thing was they moved our security light round so that it didn't come on while they were in the act .....nothing is sacred believe me Lynn
