I have in my tree William George Appleby, I have got all certificates back to his marriage in Oct 1875 to Amelia Kicks, in Bethnal Green. On census records past this date, he is listed as born abt 1854 in Poplar. I cannot find a birth certificate, have done all of 1837 between 1850-1856. His marriage certificate names his father as William Appleby, deceased. On the 1871 census I have found a family that could fit, except they are transcribed Applebee. I checked deaths for a William Appleby between 1871 and 1875 and found one in March qtr 1875 in Poplar of a matching age to the one found on the 1871 census. My question is would you go with this as being the right one or continue to search deaths pre 1871? There is another entry on the 1871 for a William Appleby (17 I think) born in Middlesex who is lodging out of the county. Where would you go with this?? Thanks in advance. Sarah

Is there an age on the marriage cert Sarah? Do you have Amelia in 1871, is she anywhere near to the Applebee family? I cannot find her in 1871 Regards Sam

Hi Sam Amelias family are on the 1871 mistranscribed as Kichs. They are also in Poplar at this time. I have not been able to find her on the 1871 though. Sarah
