From the feedback on this thread, I think that the local offices to avoid like the plague are NOTTINGHAM and LIVERPOOL Margaret

I've had copies of originals from most of the local offices I have contacted, and all have been very quick. I've never had to wait more than a week, even at some of the larger and probably busy ones like Manchester.

I received my cheque back from Nottingham today and have re-ordered from the GRO. Better 2-3 weeks wait than 4-6. Margaret

Hi All E-mail address for Liverpool Registrar Office, for anyone wishing to try and find out how long their Certs are likely to be registrar@liverpool(.)gov(.)uk remove brackets. Julie

I order all my certs from the GRO over the phone (phone number on their website) and they always turn up before 7 days. I think telephone orders have priority. the service is alot better than the 2-3 weeks delivery you get if you order online. Debbie

I'm the same as Anne. I ordered a cert from Liverpool on 22nd November and still haven't received it but my cheque was cashed within a week of them receiving the request! Lou

Margaret> I've been ordering from the GRO but might use Leicester office next time if its quick like you say. What info do i need to send them as i understand they don't use the GRO numbers?

I sent off for two certs this Monday. Got them this morning - the envelope was date stamped Wednesday! Thankyou Blackburn RO! Marjorie.

My local office is taking about 2-3 weeks. So about the same as the GRO. Seems that since the 'Who do you think you are' series, genealogy has really taken off. In a way it's a good thing as the more people there are doing it, the more connections you are likely to get. But it does mean that there are even more people sending off for certs, so we have to wait that bit longer. Jeanette x

I was hoping my one ordered 20 Jan would turn up today - but no luck.

Yesterday I posted a thread about the brilliant service from Ashbourne Register Office. Today I have had a letter from the Nottingham office telling me that my cert is in a queue and will be sent in 4-6 weeks. I have emailed them asking for my cheque back. Thats even slower than the GRO. I know its a city office, but so is Leicester and they send them out by return of post. Margaret
