Any error messages involving Kernel32 are pretty meaningless. Kernel32 is the core of all the 32 bit windows versions, and, put simply, keeps tabs on what is happening where, especially memory usage. When an application goes wrong, it is Kernel32 that picks up the pieces, and reports the error, and this is what you are getting. Errors like this are usually caused by 2 things:- 1) installing software that overwrites shared components of Windows with older versions 2) files getting corrupted through not shutting down properly or viruses Have you recently installed any software? If so, uninstall it, and see if things improve. Ultimately though, you will probably have to restore. I am an IT professional, and I would struggle to find the cause. I usually just re-install Windows, because it is quicker. If you don't have a decent restore point, backup your data (you should do this frequently anyway), reinstall windows and your applications, then restore your data. Hope this is of some help.

If you've had it 3 years, it wont be XP, and there wont be a restore capability ! I seriously urge you to upgrade to XP Home Edition.

Hi, I am on ME too - you should have system restore! Click on programs then Accessories and then System Tools. Click on System Restore. It tells you how to restore the system to an earlier date using basically click next stuff. Check it out now and click on a restore date (they are highlighted) to before the prob started.

Laird I'm on ME and don't use AOL, I use Virgin. Noah rescued my computer on his ark. A friend of a friend gave it a brain transplant and a face lift and let me have it for £50 three years ago. It may be ancient but I try and look after it as well as my very limited knowledge allows and it usually runs pretty well. I think what you described is a bit beyond my capabilities, so for now I'll just have to put up with the problem. Thank you anyway for your input. Cheers Helen

Kernel32 is pretty fundamental to Windows 32bit OS. Are you an AOL user ? anyways, sounds like summat is corrupted. Are you on XP ? If so, locate oldest 'Restore point' and restore the system. Try and get a backup of personal stuff, email etc before you do.... locate Restore facilty via Control Panel If not and/or no 'Restore point', you will have to reinstall Windows or restore from a backup you may have made. If you are on XP, the original CD will have some tools to help correct partial corruption - pop it in and follow instructions. If you have to totally start again, would recommend XP Home Edition. Pain innit !

I keep getting a message saying there is an error in KERNEL32.DLL This is happening a couple of times a day. My internet connection is cut and I have to restart my computer. Does anyone know what this is and if I can do anything to stop it happening? I had a similar problem a few months ago with TKONNECT.exe and someone told me it was a file that had been put there by my old ISP. I didn't need it any longer and removed it and the problem was solved. But I don't want to removed anything that is needed! When I do a search on the file name it is described as an Application Extention file and is 524KB. That sounds important but maybe not......
