More Info!! They must be two different families. I found a marriage between Edward Jones and Mary Ann Lowes in 1814 so the three Mary Ann births must be hers and also the Joseph Lowes Jones but his birth reg says only Mary. There are about another 6 marriages between Edward Jones and a Mary, the nearest dates to the above children being marriages in 1793 and 1794. What do we think now. Sorry to be such a nuisance.

This is a nightmare really. Mary, Edward and Jones being really common surname and my Martha married a Smith and he is a real brickwall duh!

I just noticed two Williams - just wonder if one died or is he another person's child.

Although it is not impossible for Mary to be having children over a 31 year span could Mary Ann be the daughter in law of Mary whose husband was born pre 1800? The other possibility is a younger brother's wife (maiden name Lowe perhaps?) I notice all the children of Mary have one christian name whereas all the children of Mary Ann have two. Having read that back I've realised I'm rubbish as it doesn't help at all!

Patricia, it is quite possible that the registrar may have been careless by writing Mary instead of Mary Anne. If that is the case Mary and Mary Anne may be the one and the same. John

It's possible that Mary/Mary Ann is the same person and the vicar/parish clerk left off the Ann on a few entries. It's also possible that Mary was a first wife and Mary Ann a second. Or they are two different wives married to two Edward Jones. nell

The fathers name is Edward Jones in all cases!! Have no idea where to start and look for a marriage. They were living in a different parish when Martha got married. I could try the same parish register as the births. I will.

Patricia You need to check the father's name - is it the same or are there different fathers? Can you find marriage(s) between Mary and a man with the right name, and a Mary Ann and a man with the right name? nell

I have found thse possible children of an ancestor on LDS all from Parish registers with film numbers. I have been and checked the parish register online but it only goes up to 1812. What is niggling me is the mothers name on the parish register varying between Mary and Mary Ann: Sarah 1800 Mary Elizh 1802 Mary Jane 1805 Mary Jno. 1807 Mary William 1813 Mary William 1815 Mary Joseph Lowe 1817 Mary Jane Elizabeth 1819 Mary Mary Ann 1822 Mary Ann Edward William 1824 Mary Ann Martha Hannah 1825 Mary John 1826 Mary Edward William 1831 Mary Ann Martha Hannah is known to be 'mine' as I have her marriage cert.
