hi, Does anyone know if there's a searchable register of still births that can be viewed online, (similar to 1837). I'm looking for one registered june 1955. thanks, joan |

Hi Joan The stillbirth register is closed to the public and can only be accessed by the parents of the stillborn child and, I believe, siblings in the event of both parents being deceased Lou |

Hi Joan If you are now the next of kin, you can write or telephone the GRO initially to request a certificate. Phone 151 471 4400 Opening hours: Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm Or write: General Register Office PO Box 2 Southport Merseyside PR8 2JD As the next of kin youwill need to supply the obvious info plus give the dates of the parents deaths. They will then send out a form for you to apply for the certificate Regards Sam |

I really wish this was open. My Grandmother had a stillborn baby girl years before my Mother was born. Because of this there is no point in me or my Mother trying to find the birth without a year. I wish it were possible to commemorate this childs birth as although she never drew breath I don't think it makes her any less valid as a human being. I don't even know if my Grandmother had the opportunity to name her or bury her. |
