hi, Does anyone know if there's a searchable register of still births that can be viewed online, (similar to 1837). I'm looking for one registered june 1955. thanks, joan

Hi Joan The stillbirth register is closed to the public and can only be accessed by the parents of the stillborn child and, I believe, siblings in the event of both parents being deceased Lou

Hi Joan If you are now the next of kin, you can write or telephone the GRO initially to request a certificate. Phone 151 471 4400 Opening hours: Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm Or write: General Register Office PO Box 2 Southport Merseyside PR8 2JD As the next of kin youwill need to supply the obvious info plus give the dates of the parents deaths. They will then send out a form for you to apply for the certificate Regards Sam

In that case, this lady is your next stop Mrs Teresa Williams 87 Pasture Road North Wembley Middx HA0 3JW I will bump the thread about stillbirths, called "Stillbirth - Some answers"I wrote to Teresa about my MIL's stillborn twin 1928, she couldn't find anything on him/her unfortunately, but she wrote me a lovely letter, and I'm sure she'll help you if she can. I really wish this was open. My Grandmother had a stillborn baby girl years before my Mother was born. Because of this there is no point in me or my Mother trying to find the birth without a year. I wish it were possible to commemorate this childs birth as although she never drew breath I don't think it makes her any less valid as a human being. I don't even know if my Grandmother had the opportunity to name her or bury her.
