Found a RYEDALE Vol 1b P751. Thought 1b was Middlesex ? As its an image of the register thats viewed do you think the original is wrong? Could it be 11b ? Where is Ryedale anyway, it doesnt show up in the list of districts on FreeBMD ... Cheers for any clues |

Ryedale is an area in Yorkshire - but it was NOT a registration district before 1930. What year/quarter and name did you look at?? |

If you have a look on the resources & guidance page of 1837 online, you will see that between 1946 and 1974 vol 1b covered parts of Yorkshire, Northumberland and Westmorland. This ties is with where Ryedale is - it is roughly centred on Malton in North Yorkshire. The list on Genuki/FreeBMD only applies 1837-1930 (something which is often forgotten) |

I found Burton listed as 9b on a few occasions when it has always been 6b. 9b is in Yorkshire. Margaret |

cheers for that - 'RTFM' applies I guess !!! Always thought the vol#s were cast in concrete after 1851 - in terms of geography. Ah well, will the southern Eva please make herself known ! |

Margaret - you're making the same mistake as Laird. 1837-1852 1852-1946 1946-1974 1974 Staffordshire 17 6B 9B 30, 34 So it's 6b between 1852 & 1946, but 9b between 1946 & 1974. |

Unfortunately, in this game very little is cast in tablets of stone !!! Yes, you're right - we all need to RTFM at times - instead of assuming we know. Anyway - glad that's solved your problem (and sorry it's created another one) |
