Does anyone know where i can access 1871 census for Scotland online? Other than Ancestry, as it doesn't cover my parish. Thanks, Mel in Oz.

Ancestry isn't very good for Scottish records and Scotlands People only goes back as far as 1881 census at the moment. I don't know of anywhere that 1871 is online (but if anybody does I'd be interested to find out). Maybe if you posted the information you're looking for someone might have access and look it up for you. Sorry can't be of more help. Margaret

Hi there Don't know of any access to 1871, but if it helps. you can get access to some parishes 1841 in Scotland (and some of England too) at www(.)freecen(.)org(.uk) Remove all brackets as usual. Its a free site. Good luck. Ellen.

Hello Melissa and Margaret, I am fairly reliably informed that the 1871 census for Scotland will be online at Scotlandspeople 'within the next few weeks'. I believe the site says something about Spring 2005, but someone 'in the know' has told me it will be sooner. Just a matter of being patient and checking the site from time to time I guess. I've got my £6 in my hot little fist just waiting lol. Best wishes, Gordon

Thanks to all. Fingers crossed for scotlands people, they've been a god send so far. Mel.

Scotlands people only have 1881,1891 and 1901 but if you put freecen in to webferret they have 1871,1861,1851 and 1841 but I don't think they are complete but worth a look

Oh Gordon , I hope that your news is true. They have been promising it since this time last year and keep putting it back. Fingers crossed then Christine

Yes, fingers crossed! Such a shame they won't release the 1911 early! That would make my year if they did!!!

I'm all excited now with the thought of the 1871 coming online in the next few weeks. Got everything crossed although I don't know how long I can wait. Think I might explode in anticipation. Lynne
