Hi Kim You could look at the GRO BMD indexes at your local records office/ library- On those you should be able to find the birth entry for Peter. The entry will show the district the birth was registered and the Volume and page number of the entry. If you then send for the birth certificate, £7 if you order online from www.gro.gov.uk - it will give you his parents names (by the way the entry you find in the indexes should tell you Peter's mother's maiden name). You coud also look in the indexes for the marriage if you wanted- sending for this certificate would give you the father's name too, as well as occupation of father. I had a quick look at the indexes online for 1943 & 1944 but couldn't find him. Ran out of credits then so couldn't search for anymore. Access to the indexes is free at the records office or library though, although you may have to book to use a fiche reader. Good Luck Ractom

Hello Kim, Welcome to our sometimes (most times!?!?!) confused and infuriating world. But it is addictive. To be serious though, if you look on your home page and scroll down you should see a topic about getting started. Click on it, and it will give you some pointers. They will help you to initially sort out what you are trying to find. Apart from that, don't be afraid to ask for help on the boards, giving as much information as you can. The smallest piece can help someone who is willing to take a fresh look for you. Paul
