Only just getting to grips with this site, when results are listed does the district col. mean where they were born or the area they have died, Thanks Elaine

Elaine, It's the district where the event was registered. So if you're looking at deaths, it's where the death was registered. Crista

And until recently the death had to registered in the district where the death took place.

Yes, I've been caught out by not finding people where they should be. My great grandfather died in Finchley North London, but because he was buried in Norfolk that's where I was looking for his death registration. Didn't help that he was called John Gray! Similarly, though I was brought up in Sanderstead, South Croydon, I was registered in Redhill because my mum had me in the maternity hospital there. nell
