I couldn't find one of my relatives on the 1871 census on ancestry no matter what I tried and now that the county in question (London / Surrey) has been put up on British Origins, I looked him up on there and found him straight away! The whole page was missing from ancestry. I've contacted them to point this out but they haven't got back to me yet.

Well Louise, I've tried all variations and wildcards etc on Ancestry and no joy. I also looked at the 1881 image to see if that would help. They were in district 16 of Berkshire which was Clewer, so I went back to the 1871 and went through all 38 pages of the same district and as well as being cross eyed now, I still wasn't able to find them, sorry. I know it's disapointing info, but at least you know where they weren't !! Sioux

There is a John Boyer 6 (transcribed as Bayer) with his grandma in Windlesham.

Louise, there are only two things likely here, one is that you have gone mad - don't worry you are in good company. The other is that they have been mistranscribed. If its any comfort, I couldn't find my Matthews family in 1871 either. I asked for a look-up on the REcords office board and as I had certs 1868 and 1874 with the family at the same address I thought it would be very easy to locate them. Many people tried and failed, and then the blessed Emma of Yorkshire found them - mistranscribed as Marthers, and apparently (though this is a mistake) living at no. 12 with another family and not as a new household at no.13 which is where they are on all their certs. As a bonus, staying with them was Eliza Thorne, who turned out to be Eliza Moore, sister of Mrs Matthews, and whom I'd never have found looking on my own. So don't give up! nell
