Thanks, Just thought it may explain some missing rellies, (after family disputes). Ours being the type of family that never seems to keep in touch with each other after some such events. Joan

Hi Joan Any official name changes by deed poll are on the National Archives site. However, people could use any surname they wanted without needing to do anything formal or legal to make it official Lou

Hi, I understand that people can change their name by deed poll to what ever they like and that this is then their legal name. How, if at all, does this show on civil regestrations? Will it be a seperate record along the lines of the addoption register? Thanks, Joan
