Hi, I have looked in free BDM and come across a birth cert for g grandfather born islington 1861 Vol 1b Page 271 As I live in Sth Aust how do I go about getting one ? What info would it be likely to have on it.......? I have heard that depending on where go the cost can vary quite a lot. Are these sites safe to use a credit card? Appreciate any suggestions. Thankyou Victoria

You can order online from: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ They accept credit cards and deliver to overseas addresses. Cost is £7 per cert, including postage (same as if you were in UK). It is a UK government site, so your credit card details should be safe! An 1861 birth cert will usually show: date & place of birth, name of child, sex of child, names of both parents (including mother's maiden name), father's occupation, informant's name address and relationship to the child, date registered, registrar's name.
