Aaahh, that lovely! Glad you are able to read it - you get an eye for it in the end, don't you. Hard work but rewarding! Anne

Well, I've had quite a good scout through them, and found children, grandchildren & brother-in-law. Conditions made on some things were very interesting too. The bit I loved best was that he left his wife £X to make her life "easy and happy" How sweet!!

East way to enlarge screen text is hold down control and move your mouse wheel. One way for larger the other for smaller.

That's brilliant - I know how you feel. I got ever so excited when I found wills from my family. They are so interesting and a real snapshot of life at the time. I have shared the cost of buying some of them with a rellie that I found from a message board. We each paid for a few of them and swopped!!

Laraine, Documents online only has wills proved in the consistory court of Canterbury. The will you want wont be there as it was proved in the court of Gloucester : "Winchcombe Wills Index 1541-1858 Gloucestershire Record Office now has a database of wills which were proved in the consistory court of Gloucester from 1541 to 1858." You will need to visit or contact the Gloucestershire record office to request a copy.Good hunting Judith

HELP PLease spent nearly one hour changing search and not putting place, and not putting first name, changing dates etc., any help or hints would be most appreciated as when I saw the thread from yesterday I thought I'd be able to find it and see it in detail OMG I'm so disappointed regards Laraine X

Just found a Will myself through Documents Online. Like you, I was very excited. Amazing to see documents from so far back! However, like you I found handwriting difficult to read. To enlarge mine, I saved it to my documents and used the + and - buttons to magnify it on the words I couldn't make out. The other option is to have it enlarged to A3 size on a photocopier. Hope this helps! Natalie

Wifey I'm thrilled! Only this Christmas my mum gave me a copy of a will my Great-great uncle made. I had only discovered his existence about a year ago, so it was very exciting. The Will gave me the married names of two of his sisters, confirmed that his other siblings were all dead at that time, gave me some more relatives to find out about, including his dead wife. He started off as a farm labourer, but from the amount of property he left I found out that he married at the advanced age of 69. His wife was the elder sister of his youngest sister's husband, which explains why he was so keen on giving much of his money/property to that family. nell

Hi Ann, I haven't got a scanner (I'm a bit of a PC novice) but think I might have them photocopied and enlarged tomorrow!

Heather, It was the comments you made on another thread that made me go back and have another look. I don't live far from where the family were then, so I think I'll be going to have a look round. I also found some wills for the same family from the local records office. They were catalogued on-line, so sent off my request, and got 2 for £4.50. Bargain!!

Hi, I've just got to tell someone who understands- Just downloaded 3 wills from documents online. They all belong to the same family, dated 1788,1793 & 1829, and name children, grandchildren, properties, etc. I'M SO EXCITED!! The only problem is, I've printed them off, but can't find a magnifying glass to look at them properly. Maybe my 3 year olds glasses will do as a magnifying glass. LOL. Well worth a look, you never know who you'll find.
