Dont 4get to Google ! I just typed in wedding dress 1800's and it gave me a link to the Tullie House collection ? it say's you can send for replica dress catalogues, or printed post card's. k.

nothing special then?cant imagine myself in a grey flannel dress somehow dont think hubby would be impressed either,will look on various sites to c if anything comes up to scratch thanks all Karin

I think then, for women, it would just have been her best dress, def. not white, and far from just being for one occasion, it would have been expected to do for many events for a long time afterwards. I think Queen Vic was one of the first to have a white wedding dress - previously royal brides favoured silver. As white grew in popularity, silver spread down the social scale as a fashionable colour for wedding accessories. Lisa

Someone directed me to site about this a while ago but I can't remember the address. However I was looking for what the lady would have worn in 1812. If they were jjust working people then a new grey flannel dress with added decoration that could be removed so that the dress would then become the Sunday best.

Most fashionable clothes they could lay their hands on (women, anyway!). Almost certainly not white, unless they were the idle rich.

Does anyone have any ideas what sort of thing a bride and groom would have worn in 1798-early 1800s have decided to have my marriage blessed next year in church most of my ancestors married in and would be great the same way as they did any suggestions would be great Karin
