Hi Anne up until 1929 a girl could legally marry at 12 and a boy at 14! So yours isn't that far out! Christine

might have made mistake on death certificate as people lied about age I don't think she would have been allowed at 11yrs old if the dates are correct

Right! I only have her age from her death cert, so I suppose she might have been older. Or looked older! This drives you nuts, doesn't it!!! Anne

Scotland you could get married 16 years of age

Gosh, that's useful!! Wish they had kept with that! Also, what age was it legal to marry in Scotland around then? I have a woman born in 1841 and married in 1852 - first child the next year. Anne

Hi Anne I have several from 1855 , the year registration started, and they DO have the marriage date of the parents on them. In fact an 1855 birth cert gives so much more information than any other year. It also lets you know how many other children the mother has. Christine

That's great thanks - will go for one of the sisters born after then. Anne

When did putting the date and place of the parents marriage start in Scotland? I have just looked at a birth cert from 1856 and it's not there. Anne
