You say he was on Anglesey. There was a POW camp there, it might be were he was posted. Can you give me a home location as this might give a clue as to the unit he joined and a name, in fact any other info if you have it.

This is the address to write to re the Army. If you write asking for a form they send it to you and ask for it to be completed as far as possible ie name, regiment if known, you say whether you are widow / son / daughter / grandchild, and send £25, and a copy of death certificate / obituary notice, then you wait. I received the form for my father's army service records, and it states there is a 6 - 8 months backlog. My father served in WW2. Hi Janine, Try searching the London Gazette Archives at www(.)gazettes-online(.)co(.)uk Remove brackets. There are records of medals awarded plus lots of information that could prove useful. Good luck, Frances

I understood you could claim these details if you could prove you were next of kin.

Hi everyone, My grandfather served in WW2 but very little is remembered about his time. I am trying to find out his medal entitlement and I was hoping to track down his WW2 service records. However, I need his regiment or regimental number and I can provide neither. National Archives tell me that the Army records for this period are subject to a 75 year hold and I will have to wait another 15 years before the medal roll is released. There were only two soldiers during WW2 with the surname that I am trying to look for and the other person (my grandfathers brother) can be researched as I have his details. Does anyone have any suggestions for me as I cannot wait for another 15 years? Am I overlooking something obvious? Is there anywhere that I can check? My father and his sister were very young at the time fo his service and all they can recall is that he spent some time on the Isle of Anglesey and while he was there he suffered with frost bite in his foot.......not much to go on. Any suggestions will be appreciated.....Janine
