Before you go to the Guldhall Library check with both Guildhall and Metropolitan Archives where they are both up to with regard to the change they are both undergoing. A lot of documents are moving from Guildhall to Metropolitan Archives. Work started about October 04 and is not supposed to be completed before approx March 05, so worth checking to se if the docs you want are still at Guildhall. Janet

This is what Mark Herber's book "Ancestral Trails" says: "Lloyd's Captains' Registers. Each volume, covering a number of years, lists (alphabetically) the holders of masters' certificates from 1869-1948, with information such as the date and place of a man's birth (and examination), the names and official numbers f ships on which he served (in some cases since 1851) and general details (using a coding system) about his voyages. Thus the code US means a voyage to the United States (East Coast or Gulf of Mexico ports). The registers and codes are described in a Guildhall Library leaflet" hope this helps. nell

Has anyone ever been to the Guildhall Library and searched the Lloyd's Captains Registers? I am thinking of going but would welcome some advice as to how to go about this and whether it is fairly easy to do!! Thanks, Sara.
