Here is an example of a marriage search I did - I filled in the first box marriages then surname Smoothy, first name John and chose the dates between Mar quarter 1858 and Dec quarter 1858 and Surrey as the county. I got the result: Smoothy John Lambeth 1d 378 I clicked on 378 which is highlighted and that brings up everyone else on that page: Marriages Dec 1858 Chowns Ann Lambeth 1d 378 ELLNOR Ann Lambeth 1d 378 Smoothy John Lambeth 1d 378 Taylor James Lambeth 1d 378 Hope this helps. nell

If you find a possible marriage on the list you get after you have searched, click on the blue number at the end of the details, eg. if you have James Joseph Blogg, Evesham 4b 777 you would click on 777 and it should then show you a list of names of people married that day. Sometimes there is an odd number of males/females, which means that the Free BMD transcriber hasn't finished transcribing yet. In that case, look again after the next up-date. By the way, there is no certain way of knowing which partner married who, unless you buy the certificate. You could always try to match names up by checking on the nearest census in date after the marriage.

I totally agree with you. I am a bit mixed up on how the marriage option works and getting it to produce other people on a marriage certificate if you want to find it. Any tips. Sue Norris

Patricia When I first looked at Free BMD I thought I had to use the search box at the top of the homepage - is that your problem, too? You need to click on 'Search' in a red rectangle at the bottom of the homepage. When you get on to the search page, click on either Births, Marriages or Deaths, insert last and first names of the person you are looking for, and the approximate dates you are looking. (Free BMD has only transcribed some of these events between 1837 and 1910 only). Don't forget to click on an area if you know it, or just All Districts or All Counties if you don't. Hope this makes it clearer, Regards and good luck! Helen

Hi, well they havent got all of the entries transcribed yet so that may be why you cant find the ones you want. Are then any specific ones you want to look for?
