Could Milly be short for Amelia?

My aunt reckons she had an aunt Milly but the 1901 census only shows a Martha and Amelia in the family. Had a thought though that Milly could be a shortened form of Amelia. What do you think? Thanks Aileenx

LOL! My gt g/f was German so I've been trying to imagine how a German would pronounce Amelia. As there's definitely no Millicent in the family I'll have to ask my German friend what she reckons when I next see her Thanks Aileenx

It sounds logical but I have relatives that are given one set of christian names and then end up being known as something ENTIRELY different! WHy?! Abigail

Thank you everyone for replying and confirming my suspicions. The thought came to me at 4am this morning when I couldn't sleep so I just had to ask! Happy hunting! Aileenx
