I am looking for any records of my late father and his family down in Oxfordshire, he was born in 1947 in Watlington, name Nigel John Jones and came to the East Midlands. My mother is a Smith, common name I know but keen to trace her and my grandparents roots, she was Jill Smith born 1948 in Kegworth, Derbyshire. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be most grateful as I am new to all this and with names as smith & jones its going to be a long journey I think ! Thank you You can also E-mail me at [email protected]

Nichola, you will need to get your parents marriage and birth certificates. The marriage certificate will show the fathers of both bride and groom. The birth certs will show the maiden name of the mothers. From there you work backwards. If you look at the home page there is a link for new researchers to read how to go about looking up. Good luck. BTW email addresses do not come up in full on the site, it is a wise precaution against any problems.
