Emma, I will mail you. It is nothing you said at all. Please do not think that at all! xx I would add if anyone is intrigued by this nonsense. The message I deleted said: "Emma, I do know how draining this sort of problem can be. I hope someone will be able to help you. Good luck" For some reason that appeared to offend Paul and, although I couldnt understand why it did, I deleted it out of good will. Bizarrely he did not seem to want it to rest. If anyone can see any abuse or reason for that to offend someone ....................................... NB Thanks to those who mailed me privately - much appreciated.

Paul, I am tired of people taking comments the wrong way. I also tried to help but it didnt work, it appeared your suggestions didnt work either and I just wished luck to get it sorted. It seems to me that some people are very uptight and ready to jump down the throats of others and I really dont understand why. And to be honest, I feel sorry for them. Luckily the majority of people on here try to help each other freely and without any sort of hang ups. I dont understand the need for snide remarks. This is not a competition. What the hell is the comment about copying messages??? Emma, good luck with sorting it out, I know how draining it can make you feel.

I hope so too Heather. If not I'll get in touch with them tomorrow. Maybe there's a bug in my software because it's such a simple thing to do really....or you'd think so. I've (supposedly) been researching today since my partner left for work at 6am but can't think of one productive thing I've got done all day 'cos of this. Imagine how much money I could have been spending on 1837! Thanks for your help Heather. You got my message noticed.

Hi Paul, Thanks for the help. I have the options to export as GEDCOM, gft, CSV or for web. There's no further options within any of these. gft and GED both save the same and send in an email fine, but it's when we try to reopen the emailed GED (in the same software that it was created) that it does nowt! Think I'm repeating myself here. Laptop's nearly been thrown out the window so many times today. Em

Emma. I am not familiar with the package you are using but most ot the software I am familiar with have a option to Export then other option like export as gedcom 5.5 then you can normally decide whether you want to suppress details on living people etc. then after exporting remember what name you gave it and it should be available to import into any software that accepts gedcom files Hope this helps Good luck Paul

Hi Heather, Thanks so much for replying! That's exactly what I've tried...umpteen times. It works if I do it as a gft file but as a ged file it won't reopen as an attachment when the email has gone through. I've seen that everyone seems to use GEDCOM's but I'm not sure if everyone can use gft files as well? Think this package may have been a waste of money as it looks like all you professionals use FT2005!! Em

Not an expert, but if yours is same as FT2005, you go to file then export all file, save as and you put in a name for the file, say Myfamilytree.ged then you go to the box below and the drop down tab and at the bottom of the file list there should be GED. Then click save. You get a little box come up saying saved as ................ If you are emailing it to your friend, you do an email, click attachment and enter the name of the ged and click on it so its added to the mail? Im not good at this, lets hope someone like Bob or Richard is on here tonight!

Does anyone have this package? I've been asked to send someone a gedcom file and as it's the first time I will have done it I have checked I'm doing it right by sending it to myself first! It hasn't worked. I can't open the file even within the program that the original file was created! Please help.
