You can try being a bit cheeky and contacting the Helpdesk on the Scotlandspeople site. They have been known to send the RCE information for nothing (but not always). Otherwise you'll have to buy an official copy of the certificate, look it up yourself if you can get to Edinburgh or get someone to do that for you. Don't hold out too much hope for lots of infomration though. It is quite likely that all the RCE will do is confirm coal gas was definitely the cause of death.

Hi Found this explanation on the Scotland's People website. Hope it helps. What does RCE mean? RCE stands for Register of Corrected Entries. An entry in an RCE records an addition or amendment to a record, made after the completion of the original statutory register entry, sometimes by order of a court or Procurator Fiscal. It may relate to paternity, divorce, sudden/accidental death, details which have come to light since registration, clerical errors and so on. The Registers of Corrected Entries are currently being imaged and cross-indexed with the original entries. Until they become available on the site, you will have to order an extract to see the effect of the relevant RCE.

Can anyone help with this? In margin of death cert where death due to coal gas poisoning is written the following:See Reg of Cor. Ents. Vol 6 page 64 31st May 1939.' Is this Register of Corrected Entries or Corresponding Entries? The orig cert is 2nd May 1939 for Holytown in County of Lanark. Help with what is referred to and where I can see it would be useful. Thanks Alastair
