Hi Amelia People buy the whole 1851 Census (and the others) from S&N for about £45, and sell each of the 31 discs on e-bay for about £5 each, making a profit of about £110. Nice little earner. The boxed set comes with an instruction leaflet. Lambeth is covered by three CD discs 26,27 & 28. Have you got the right one ? What address are you looking for ? dave

GRR! found the address that I was looking for and they aren't even living there! How maddening! Thank you for all your help. It makes abit more sense now. So when your looking for a person do you have go though it page? I might go mad at the end of this.

Sometimes you have to trawl through but I think the number you mean is not always the page number, sometimes it can be the suppliers page number if that makes sense. So try all combinations of that number on the left hand side Hope that makes sense

It's not *quite* as bad as it seems, if you know which road you want. Load up the census piece that you want (1571 or whatever). Press Ctrl-L and you will get an image that fills the screen. Use your "Page down" key to move through the pages; you only need to look in the column that has the street names until you find the one that you want; it will probably just take a minute or two.

Amelia No I don't think it's dodgy it's just that a lot of them aren't indexed. You could try having a look on the S & N Genealogy Supplies site to see if they have an index. Or try this site - http://thegenealogist.sandn.net/ Otherwise, yes I'm afraid you'll have to trawl through each piece. Jeanette x

It is the Lambeth, 1851 Census disk 27. It hasd H107/1571 to 1573 on the disk. I got it off Ebay. It seems genuine enough. Why? Do you think it is dodgy? Do I really have to search throught the whole lot!?

Hi Amelia Are you sure your census is street or name indexed? That number that you gave above sounds like a piece number to me. If that is the case and it isn't indexed, then you will have to search through the whole piece to find what you want. What census county and date is it? And where did you buy it from? Jeanette x

I am so confused! I bought the 1851 census return disk for Lambeth. Does anyone know how you look up specific people or house and street names!? I have become more and more demented as the day goes on. I looked at the index thing and it gave the adobe whatist thingy something like 107/1659 code and then next that is a number which I assumed would be the page number but when I looked up that page it wasn't that street at all in fact is was about two mile down the road from where I want to be! Please help this mad woman!
