Hi Hayley The 1901 census is online and is pay per view. The 1881 census is free to view on the familysearch site. Ancestry has the 1871, 1881, 1891 and part of the 1901. You will need to subscribe. Freecen is in its infancy at the moment but you never know it might have what you're looking for. There is a page to view to see what has been covered. You can always ask for lookups on the Records Office board on this site. Someone may have the census you are interested in. And it might be worth a Google as there are sometimes odd bits available online. Jeanette x

Hayley, There are quite a few individuals and Family History Societies that have transcribed parts of the earlier census years, so it's always worthwhile googling the year and county of the census that you need. If you're pretty sure that your family stayed in and around the same area, joining the local FHS is a good idea - it usually only costs around £10 and they tend to have the early census indexes if not the full transcription that you can request lookups from. Alternatively some FHS's sell copies of the indexes. Which counties are you looking at? Emma x

I am looking in Dorset, Corfe Castle. I have found 7 generations of my family here and would love to go back further but as i can only find info up until the 1871 census i'm a bit stuck x

Hi Haley, this site has some census records for 1841,5161 etc It is only partial records and pretty hit and miss, but you may get lucky! Christine http://www.censusfinder.*com/england.htm

Hayley, Two sites that might be worthwhile if you haven't already taken a look at them: www.sdfhs(.)org - Somerset & Dorset FHS members.iinet(.)net(.)au/~suegar/purbeck.htm (The website owner has Protestation Returns, Hearth Tax Returns, Corfe Castle census 1790, 1841 etc. and is willing to do look ups.) You might benefit from looking at the Dorset OPC web site too. Put Dorset online parish Council into your search engine and it will come up. lots of info on there is dorset. some areas covered better than others. Ann Glos
