Thank you both so much. He has told me that his Father was called Donald Mays and his mother was called Maisie Shirley but I can't remember if they are his real or adopted parents. so I'll ask him next time I see him. Thanks again!

Hi Helene, Like Lou say he need her full name (hopefully its not to common) then if she was single at the time of his birth he can search forward a few years to see if he can find a marriage, like Lou I did this on 1837, if he finds a match do a reverse search to get her husbands first name as well. Then you can see if you can find them on the elecotral roll, mail me if you find something and I will do a search for you. Hopfully it will be straighforward, but she may have remarried or she may have emigrated there are a lot of possabilites, but try this first. Also try psoting messages on the following sites. www.myfolks(.)co.uk www.scotsconnected.com www.missing-you.net www.lookupuk.com Hope this helps, Good Luck with your search. Best Wishes Sheila p.s. he could also put his birth name on the thread on the tips board, and put a message on the TTf board (please be discreet about how much informtion you give on there though :O)

He needs to start by obtaining a copy of his original birth certificate. This will give him his birth mother's (and father sometimes) name. Once I had this information from mine, I searched 1837 online until I located her marriage. He could also try contacting Joan Allen at www.myfolks.net She's a wonderful lady and has an excellent tracing service for adoptees and their families Lou

I know a gentleman who was adopted and bought up in London and I would like to help him find out about his family. Where do I start?
