Just wondering what is the best way to get from Kent to Essex by public transport. Can anyone suggest a website to look at?

What are your start & finish towns?

As the post above suggests, it depends on the towns, but you will have to go via London. Trains from Kent come in at Charing Cross, as far as I know, and trains to Essex leave from Liverpool Street. Use the Circle Line tube to get between the two. Just to complicate matters, some parts of Essex are on the tube network. You can also travel from Kent to London Bridge, then travel to Essex from Fenchurch Street which is not far to walk to, from London Bridge. You can calso travel from Kent to Victoria Station or Charing Cross station. As previously mentioned parts of Essex are on the underground system. So it may be that you only have to get to London to pick up the underground. If you state your start and finish destinations, we would all be able to give you more specific details. Thanks for your replies. I am staying in London when I come over and I want to visit Faversham in Kent and Elmstead in Essex as they are the birth places of my grandparents and I was wondering if you had to come back to London or not or whether you could go directly from Kent to Essex. I also know someone who lives in Kent and was wondering if it would be easier and cheaper for her to meet me in London or Essex. Christine

If she is in Kent and is going by train, it would be easier for her to meet you in central London.

As mentioned, there are no public transport links between Kent and Essex other than, I believe, a bus service across the Dartford Crossing. If travelling by train you have to go via London. Elmstead (Elmstead Market) is a few miles east of Colchester, which is on the Liverpool Street line out of London.
