The one where my grandad is buried in County Roscommon is very confusing. There are a few graves around the Catholic church but apparently these are only priests that were allowed to be buried there. The catholic graveyard is a couple of miles away and surrounds a protestant chuch. Don't ask me why?? My mum said its always been like that as far as she can remember

George, It depends on where they are to an extent. In some cases the burials would be to a town or city cemetery, and there is an invisible dividing line between the two faiths. In other areas, especially the smaller towns and villages, the chapel would quite possibly have its own burial ground. But in saying that, There is one that I know of that is not in any town or village, and it is divided between the two faiths. Paul

Can someone in Ireland tell me if Irish Catholic Churches over there have graveyards attached or is it tradition for them to be buried in cemeteries? Thanks George
