Well I ordered the CD set in the end and WOW I'm now in touch with someone in New Zealand who is related to my great uncle's wife!!! Not sure what relation she is to me but she's going to send me copies of all the photos and certificates she has. I'm so excited - it was well worth the £22 the discs cost in the end. It also means I've now got Pedigree Resource Files 86-90 if anyone needs a look up.

For note if you go to one of their churches you can order and look at the disc in their purpose built family research rooms, My local Latter day saints church in Orpington Kent has 4 microfiches for free use and it takes abour a week to get from storage to the church. You get to chat with other researchers who are often a mine of information.

I wrote to one of the people who was listed as a submitter. I had a very charming letter back from an elderly gentleman in California and he sent me a copy of his whole tree going back quite a long way. Having said that, he did have my gg grandmother listed as marrying the wrong person! I think that the information is useful but should not be taken as completely reliable.

Since asking the question I've looked further on the LDS site. It seems you can buy CDs of the Pedigree Resource Files which includes who submitted the records, original notes and sources. Might be worthing getting. The one I need works out about £12

Guinevere Report 24 Jan 2005 19:12

Hi, They are submitted by LDS members and should always be checked against original records. Some are very well researched others not and you don't don't which until you check. Gwynne

They are submitted by people like me and you and are pretty much a gedcom family history file., so no they are not accurate. The way I see it, anything that is transcribed has the risk of not being accurate.

on the LDS site. Anyone know anything about them? ie who they are submitted by, are they accurate etc.
