Thank you so much EVERYONE. I have only just got back on after dinner and you have all kindly answered my question. I shall discount this one now, she was obviously born in Bristol. I think I was just living in hopes. I must try and remember to google more - I always forget that you can google things like this. Sorry. Chrissie xx

Ancestry has these two transcribed as Clara and Rose Kall and gives birth place as St Phillips Bristol. Looking at the image, there a several people on the page with this birthplace - I'd say it is Bristol but the enumerator wrote it quickly, without dotting i or crossing t

Chrissie You say that the area these girls are working in isn't important, but if they just said St Phillips, the enumerator is going to say "And where's that when it's at home, then?" Either it is local to where they are working, or the second bit, the bit you can't read, is going to indicate where in the country it is. This is usually the county, but it might well be Bristol. Do the entries above and below give counties as well as places? B

Thanks Jeanette. I have realised that most towns probably had a St Phillips so without being able to read the rest I think I am scuppered. I was hoping to bring down a brick wall for someone but I think I shall have to give up. Thanks for trying. Chrissie

Hi Chrissie Couldn't find the image on the 1901 - perhaps it's not on ancestry yet. Did discover there was a Saint Philips in Reigate. Try this site - www.southwark.anglican.org/index.html Jeanette x

I know this is a long shot but I just wondered if anyone knew the answer. I have someone on the 1901 census who is listed as born St Phillips then it looks like a small ( followed by Burt M or Bart M Brurl M (could be almost anything!!). The area they are in isn't any help as they (sisters) are working as cook and chambermaid. I want to know if there is any chance that one of them could be the one I am looking for but I know that she was born in Richmond Surrey. So I just wondered if anyone knew whether St Phillips was a hospital or borough or what. Thank you. Chrissie
