It can be very frustrating, cant it? My Dad died without telling me anything about his family so I started from scratch. I'm now stuck at 1826 with Robert Hugh Munro and I'm not sure how to go further. I'm going to the libary at Inverness to spend some time with the geneologist there but I don't think he will be able to link the Scottish clan with the East Enders. Munro's have been living in Hackney and surrounds at least as far back as 1826 where I got stuck. Still - it's lots of fun !

what you really need to do, is order the marriage cert of daisy in 1908 which will then give the fathers name and occupation and help you indentify her family

There is a birth reference for Daisy Wimpary April-June 1888 Shoreditch 1c 50 I'd guess this is your nana. The 1901 address is 87 Rushton Street, Shoreditch Looking at the image it could well be Wimpory. The last vowel is not very distinct. Source information: RG13/276 Registration district: Shoreditch Sub-registration district: Hoxton Old Town ED, institution, or vessel: 14 Folio: 17 Page: 25

You are a lot of super-sleuths! Freebmd has Daisy Wimpory marrying a Robert Thomas H MUNRO in Hackney Dec 1908 REF: 1b800 Is this your Nana? Yes - this was my Nana! I'm beginning to wonder if I have the birth certificate for the little girl who died in 1894 now.

Thanks everyone - I know of a Daisy Wimpory that died aged seven but that is not my Nana (for obvious reasons :) . I think the one who said the name may be Wimpey or spelt incorrectly in the census must be right! Her birth certificate says she was born to Ellen King and William Wimpory but they must have farmed her out to relatives. If she appears with Susannah Fitzjohn, Nellie, Henry and William Wimpory at a different address then I think that must be what happened. I think they were very poor and probably couldn't afford so many children. She was the eldest daughter and perhaps she went to the Uncle and Aunt or something like that. Another member on this site contacted me and said that her mother knew Daisy and that she was Susannah's daughter. She herself was descended from Daisy's 'brother' who I now think must have been her cousin. There was talk of adoption in the family - this must have been it! Thank you all for your help!

I would presume that is the marriage, seeing a jennifers surname is Munro.

CelticShiv Report 24 Jan 2005 16:02

Also there is a possibility she might of used a different name.

don't always go by place of birth, as this will not always be the same in the census. It will be whatever place of birth they decided to give. I have several ancestor who changed their place of birth possibly like we change hairstyles. Making it all the more difficult to be found.

My London geography is rubbish... anything that has London in it, to me, is the same place lol Plus there's the fact that the one from Bethnal Green died in 1894... Name: Wimpory, Daisy Record Type: Deaths Age at death: 7 Quarter: September Year: 1894 District: Bethnal Green County: Greater London London Middlesex Volume: 1c Page: 135

There aren't any married Daisy's from Bethnal Green in 1901 census, aged 13.

My Nana is on the 1891 census, happily ensconced with her family in Bethnal Green aged 3. In 1901 she has disappeared completely. The family are still there but no Nana. WHat could have happened? She didn't die - that we know because I am here to tell the tale. I cannot find her anywhere on the 1901 census. Her name is Daisy Wimpory and she was born in 1887 in Bethnal Green. Any ideas?
