Because the C of E is "established", the vicar/rector is a de facto registrar - but his/her registrations still have to end up in the central system. The ministers of other denominations and religions can apply, I believe, to be registrars, and that makes the process simpler for religiously-minded brides & grooms (i.e. only one ceremony instead of both religious & state separately) Christine |

Yes and yes. All marriages, wherever they take place, have to be registered with the civil registrar. Synagogues do keep their own records as well though. nell |

May seem a daft question but would a Jewish marriage be registered as normal in our indexes if it took place in a synagogue? Or do synagogues keep their own registers Simone x |
