Dawn I think I'm going to try that sort of thing. I have had 2 death certs recently that say that there was an inquest. I can't leave it at that, I'm too curious. One Solihull, the other York. Think I'm going to email both places and see where that gets me. Have managed to get photocopies of census through the post from archives offices before, at very little cost, so this may be worth a try. I have the dates from the inquests on the death certs. Hiya Margaret I had a similar enquiry but from 1952. I started with the Library closest to the incident. I was passed on to another Library and then ended up with Hounslow Library. All the enquiries I managed to do via e-mail. The gentleman archivist at Hounslow photocopied the relevant article and kindly sent it to me. I offered to pay, but he just said no problem, send me the postage. I duly did this with a 'Thankyou' card. I hope you find what you are looking for!! Kind Regards Dawn

a PS You might find you have to contact Birmingham (West Midlands, or whatever) Records Office for Solihull. Christine

I'm sure if you e-mail the Warwickshire County Record Office they'll tell you what info they have. Their website is www.warwickshire.gov.uk/countyrecordoffice and their e-mail address is there along with other relevant info. Part of a reply I received on a similar topic: *** ...it is possible that there is information such as a death notice in one of the two main newspapers for the area that cover the year of 1927. These are the Leamington Courier and the Warwick Advertiser. These papers are available for viewing although if you would like a copy of anything you find, you would need to contact Warwick Library or Leamington Library for microfilm copies as we only have the newspapers in original large volumes. Both libraries are within short distance of this record office. ... Unfortunately we are unable to do research for enquirers other than what may only take under 15 minutes. If you would like us to check the newspapers for you, or search the parish registers and the GRO for you then you will need to use our Research Service which is at a cost of £22.50 per hour. You can find out more information about our Research Service at our website. See above for the address. Alternatively, you are more than welcome to come and visit us and have a look at these records yourself. Please take note of our opening hours and please bring a CARN ticket if you have one. If you do not, then you can apply for one when you arrive as long as you have identification containing your name, address and signature. You will need this ticket to gain entry into our searchroom. *** I recruited my son, who lives in Leamington, to nip into the library where he got a copy of the article I was after. - I thought I'd rather pay him than a stranger!
