coal mines in ireland

We went on a trip round an old coal mine in Ireland last summer so there definately were some. This one was in an area called Arigna in the West of Ireland Paula

Daniel Are you sure you are going to be looking for coal mines? There was silver/lead/iron/copper/slate mining around Slieveardagh and Nenagh and other places in Tipperary, as well as other places in Ireland. Much of S Ireland, especially the mid counties, was and still is peat. Janet

Is there a web site that i can look for coal mines area,s in ireland in the 1800 as one of my husband ancestors family were miners and this may help me to trace the area they lived in. thank you beryl
