I have a retired Gas Inspector in my lot - down as an annuitant - on a pension. Remember these were the days before an old age pension so you either worked til you dropped or lived with your relatives when you got old. So an annuitant was really well off compared with most.

It means she has a Pension from somewhere. An annuity is a yearly allowance. Possibly an Inheritance?

I found this listed as an occupation on the 1881 census. Has anyone any idea what it means? Thanks, Cheryl
