http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/ has a section on Censuses It includes FreeCEN plus other sites with partial transcriptions. Christine

Hi Giles Try the following www(.)censusfinder(.)com Various England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales transcriptions 1841-1891, searchable by county. Also has parish records, workhouse records, trade directories etc by no means complete but lots of little gems :) Hope this helps!! Sarah

I'm not aware of any, especially not for the 1861 (the least-indexed of all). There are various indexes available to buy, including address, name or partial indexes. I suppose it depends on which county you need. Certain places have been indexed by volunteers. I think the effort is mostly on getting the actual censuses transcribed.

I just received my first 1851 Census CDs, and I noticed that everything has been transcribed into one Master Index about 8 - 10Mb (1-2Mb compressed) and seperate indexes for each Parish. The Master Index contains only the Heads of each household, whereas each seperate index contains the full households with complete information, except relationship. My question is this... Do any websites out there offer transcriptions of these older Census for any County or Counties? Obviously, to view the original scanned images you would need to order the CDs, but surely some websites offer just the transcribed indexes for browse/download? Could anyone please provide some links?
