I now have so many scraps of information on bits of paper and print outs and I want to get it all together neatly. I notice there's a family tree programme thing linked to this site and wonder if anybody has used it and if it's any good. I'd like something that has stuff for doing more than just a tree - something like a facility for doing a bit on each person and other stuff if possible (attaching photos/images etc). Has anybody used any other family history software that they can recommend (or have advice on any software to avoid!)? Diane

Diane I'd recommend PAF. It can be downloaded free from www.familysearch.org I've been using it for months now and have had no problems at all with it Lou

I also use free PAF, you can add photos and note etc. Very easy to use.

My personal choice is Family Tree Maker, the latest version (2005) came out recently. It has some excellent printouts available and you can load all the information to a website. Costs around £30 and if you get the Deluxe edition (possibly £3 or £4 extra) you get some data CDs as well. Mandy :)

I have Family Tree 2005. If you put a search in the box above you can find lots of threads on this subject. I think its a matter of choice. Though I guess the free PAF must be worth a go.

I never thought of looking to see if there were already threads on this subject (I'm new to the site and just learning!). I'll have a browse through now. Thanks to everyone who's given advice. I'm going to spend the weekend follwing it all up! Diane
