ireland-where do i start

i have found out that my greatx3 grandad was bn in roscommon county abt1837 is there any way i can find out more about him or when he came to england ect

you could try www(.)familysearch(.)org to see if his birth is on there remove brackets.

If you know the county it might be worth seeing if there are any living relatives still living there. It would need a carefully worded letter - don't want to freak anyone out! I tried this approach for a relative who was born in 1840 and the family tree now extends back to 1750! I wrote to all the families with my surname in the county and one posted it to a brother in another county and he posted me a lovely letter and masses of information! Might be worth a try - you can get the addresses from the irish equivilent of BT -or BT if it is in Northern Ireland Good Luck Helen

Try www.leitrim-roscommon. (com) it has the 1901 census 100% transcribed for Roscommon plus a message board among other stuff. Do you know if they were from Roscommon town or somewhere else in the county of Roscommon? My mum is from a village called Cootehall in Roscommon. Whats the name you are researching? Paula
