There was a military hospital in Shorncliffe (near Folkestone)not that far away, but I don't know what dates it covered. There is a military cemetery at Shorncliffe too. - Lovely spot on a hillside overlooking the sea. |

The new restaurant in the NAAFI block marks a return to the original purpose of the NAAFI building which was erected in 1868 to provide a canteen and recreation rooms for soldiers. Particularly popular with the troops at Dover Castle during World War I and World War II, the NAAFI remained the centre of life for off-duty troops until they were withdrawn from the castle in 1958. and this was on English-Heritage |

hi just googled( Dover castle hospital for wounded soldiers) and guess what, it was ,they dug out underground tunnels for them if you cannot find it I think it was BBC Radio Kent |

Theres a good site on the Castle. www.dover-web.*co.*uk/dovercastle.asp remove* it tells you a lot about the tunnels but there is no mention of them beeing used as a Hos in WW1. (lots of pics) |

Hi Shirley, I had a look at the guide book I bought when I visited the castle in the summer and it doesn't mention anything about there being a hospital there in WW!, just in WWII, so it doesn't sound as though there was. The tunnels and the hospital are really interesting to see, well worth a visit if you are in that part of the world. Rachael |

Hello Please could anyone let me know if Dover Castle was a hospital for WW1 wounded soldiers. I know it was for WW2 soldiers. Thank you Shirley |
