Hello, I received my great great grandparent's marriage certificate today. My great grandmother's father, Richard Porter is on there listed as Boatman. Emma was living with her grandparents in 1871 and 1881 so I don't anything else about her parents. I don't know which town she was living in in 1888 as certificate only says "Walsall Road". Can anyone help? I am trying to find Richard in 1891. Thank you very much Lucia :-)

Does the certificate give the registration district, Lucia?

Where did the marriage take place? I should think that Walsall Road is probably near to the place of the marriage otherwise it would have a place name included. There are 225 Richard Porters on ancestry perhaps we can narrow it down with the area. Janet

Thank you all so much. Sorry I haven't been more specific. Emma Porter was married in 1888 at Christ Church, Lichfield. She was born c1864 in Brereton, Staffordshire and was living with her grandparents in 1871. Her grandparents were: Harriet Porter(neé Foden), born Rugeley Parish, c1821 Richard Porter, born Rugeley Parish, c1827 I know that Emma had a sister called Elizabeth, who was born c1869 in Rugeley Parish. Thank you all so much for your help, Lucia :-)

Have you seen this on Ancestry? Personal Information What to do next? Name: PORTER, Emma Record Type: Births Quarter: March Year: 1864 District: Lichfield County: Staffordshire Volume: 6b Page: 398 (click to see others on page) Lichfield covers Brereton. Could well be Emma's birth. Buying the cert will give you her mother's name which will help finding her parents.
